Recovery

So Steve and I were worried that the cast would prevent him from playing- but obviously not. This is the same afternoon as his surgery- he was rolling everywhere. He was happy and playing and talking which made us feel a lot better and he slept most of the day.
The hard part is he can't sleep on his stomach because the cast is at 90 degrees so his leg just sticks up in the air and he is teething really bad so he has a really stuffy nose, so he can't take his pacifier. So needless to say it take us 1 1/2 to 2 hours to put him to sleep because he can't fall asleep no matter how tired he is. But he has been really happy during the day which is nice. We hope he gets better quickly so we can get him back to normal. We love our sweet little buddy.

Surgery 2

So I went back with 2 other moms and I could hear my baby screaming and when I saw him he had 2 nurses over him trying to take wires off of him and he was crying with his eyes closed. And they say to me I can pick him up and I am thinking- how can I pick him up with all this stuff on him. Anyway- I try to feed him to calm him down, but he won't eat he is just screaming- so then I start crying because my baby is so out of it and hungry and he has this huge cast on his leg- way bigger than I imagined. And I was so stressed that he was in pain- he also had a breathing tube down his throat so I was worried that he wouldn't be able to eat. Okay so I stress out a lot. So then Steve comes in and was able to calm him down. After about 10 minutes he stared to open his eyes and he was in just a daze. Then Cohen ate a little and by the time we went home he was talking and looking around so it made us both feel a lot better.

Surgery 1

This was Cohen before his surgery. He had his toes separated last Friday. We were the first of the day, they always do the youngest first because they can't go that long without food. So we were there at 5:30 in the morning and we had to register and then Cohen had a physical. Then the anesthesiologist came and talked with us and then the surgeon- Dr. Schmelzer.

They took us to a room where the kids having surgery waited to be taken back- here Cohen met Mary and 9 month old little girl. And Cohen loves little girls they had a great time playing, and it was really nice for us to talk to another parent- it made the time pass by quicker.
Then we took Cohen down a hall and he was upset because he was really hungry and we handed him off to the doctors and we had to leave him. It was one of the hardest things I had to do as a parent and of course I was crying. But I surprisingly was pretty calm the whole day. The Dr. said his surgery was supposed to be  an 1 1/2 well 2 1/2 hours went by and my heart was racing- then the doctor finally came out and I guess Cohen had been done with surgery for 45 mintues but the Dr. who is a pediatric plastic surgeon had an emergency to go to so he wasn't able to talk to us right after.
He said everything went well- if you don't know Cohen had 6 bones and 6 toe nails and so they had to separate his toes and then do a graft and then place him in a cast so he wouldn't destroy the graft. So then they called me back to go and see him....

Our New House

So we got a house! We signed a contract yesterday-yeah. It is in our ward so we are really excited because we love our ward. Here are a couple of pictures.

The backyard has a nice covered patio.
This is the kitchen- obviously.
Front door and a formal living room.

And the front of the house-isn't it cute. We are both really excited, and we are working with really nice people. We will close on July 16th so we will live at my parents house forabout 3 weeks.

6 month pictures

So we had this amazing photographer take some pictures of Cohen- we got like 65 pictures so here are just a few. She did a great job. She comes to your house to take pictures and spends as much time taking pictures as your child allows her to- that way they feel more comfortable in their own home instead of a studio. And she is really great with kids. If you want to check out her web site it is mindyyoungphotography.com. Any way these are a couple of his pictures- he just keeps getting cuter and cuter- not like I am partial!

Bitting

I need all the advice I can get! Cohen keeps biting me while he's nursing, and I don't know how to make him stop. Every time he does I raise my voice at him to startle him and most of the time he just smiles at me. And of course I feel bad yelling at him and telling him "no"- so I end up crying because I feel bad and he ends up smiling and laughing at me- it is so FRUSTRATING. Yesterday he made me bleed and today he wouldn't let go, so I am worried that I might have to stop breast feeding if he doesn't stop which I wanted to continue doing until he was 10-12 months old and he is 6 1/2 months old- plus I don't know how to switch him to formula. So please give me all the advice you can!!!

Sitting UP

Steve and I went to Olive Garden last weekend. It was one of the first times we took Cohen with us to a restaurant. He played in his car seat happily looking around for a long time. Then I took him out and we propped him up with a blanket. It was like he was sitting with us. I loved these pictures because he seems so proud of himself for sitting up like a big boy and looking around. Steve and I had a great time taking him with us to dinner- we should do it more often!

Baby Cohen's First Haircut

So he is not quite sure what is going on here, but since he has his pacifier we can do whatever we want. I am all about babies natural hair and I thought I wouldn't have his hair cute until he was a lot older. But he has like 20 wispy hairs that are like 3-4 inches long and so anytime there is wind he kind of looks ridiculous. So I had just gotten my hair done by my sister Heather (who I love). So we asked "Aunt Heather" to cut baby Cohen's hair. He did great and his hair looks great!

As a reward for being so good Aunt Heather gave Cohen kisses- oh so sweet!

Memorial Day

Okay so Memorial Day was last Monday- but I have some pictures to show of Steve's Grandma and Grandpa Brough's grave site. It was raining most of the day, but we packed Cohen up and went up to beautiful Morgan. The grave site was beautiful and the cemetary is on this hill over looking the valley- so beautiful. We really love and miss Grandma and Grandpa- it was fun to take Cohen up there, he never met them so I like to think they spent some time together in heaven before Cohen came to us!
