This was Cohen before his surgery. He had his toes separated last Friday. We were the first of the day, they always do the youngest first because they can't go that long without food. So we were there at 5:30 in the morning and we had to register and then Cohen had a physical. Then the anesthesiologist came and talked with us and then the surgeon- Dr. Schmelzer.
They took us to a room where the kids having surgery waited to be taken back- here Cohen met Mary and 9 month old little girl. And Cohen loves little girls they had a great time playing, and it was really nice for us to talk to another parent- it made the time pass by quicker.
Then we took Cohen down a hall and he was upset because he was really hungry and we handed him off to the doctors and we had to leave him. It was one of the hardest things I had to do as a parent and of course I was crying. But I surprisingly was pretty calm the whole day. The Dr. said his surgery was supposed to be an 1 1/2 well 2 1/2 hours went by and my heart was racing- then the doctor finally came out and I guess Cohen had been done with surgery for 45 mintues but the Dr. who is a pediatric plastic surgeon had an emergency to go to so he wasn't able to talk to us right after.
He said everything went well- if you don't know Cohen had 6 bones and 6 toe nails and so they had to separate his toes and then do a graft and then place him in a cast so he wouldn't destroy the graft. So then they called me back to go and see him....
